If you’re an active walker, jogger, or runner, you should and could be earning free gifts, cash cards, gift cards, discounts, and even PayPal for your steps. The Sweatcoin App runs in the background and tracks your movement. Every 1000 steps, you earn 1 “Sweatcoin” (SWC) which you redeem for gift cards, discounts, free products, and more. Best of all – it’s entirely free to use.

Who am I? My name is Jason. “DogeBiscuit” on Reddit. I discovered Sweatcoin in 2016 and loved the concept. Earned my first 100 coins in less than a month and used 30 of them to redeem a $30 “Try The World” food gift box for free (I only paid $9 for shipping). That came out to $1 per coin on something I would have likely bought anyway.
There was no info about the app back then, so that’s why I made this website. As a competitive runner, I put on a lot of miles (anywhere from 25 – 65 per week) so the coins piled up. A few months later, I earned my 1000th coin. And that’s when this app’s popularity exploded.
Since then I’ve tracked over ~4 million steps, cashed out on a couple dozen offers, invited a lot of my friends to join the app and earned Influencer Offers ($20 – $1000 PayPal cards for inviting people to join), met a lot of amazing people on our Subreddit Community and Discord Server.
A Few User Reviews
“This app is amazing and motivating! What is better than making money to get moving! This will definitely help me meet my health and weight loss goal.” ~ Deanna
“This app is great. I highly recommend trying it out for awhile to see how many coins you can collect in a few months. Offers are decent but steadily improving over time.” ~ Libbs
“Motivates you to walk more. Would love if it counted indoor steps/treadmill steps – even if they were harder to earn. The only reason it’s not a 5 star is because it crashes sometimes. (Thankfully I don’t lose my steps when it crashes though). Would love if there were more products available to buy. But I understand that Sweatcoin is new and in the future there will be more products. And the Blockchain is coming so you will be able to officially buy and sell the coins.”. ~ Misha

Is Sweatcoin Legit? Or is it a bait-n-switch?
Yes it is legit. Tens of thousands of people have redeemed products/gift cards/discounts successfully. As long as you read each Offer Details, you won’t be surprised or upset by this app.
Can you earn money & Gift Cards?
Yes, there have been quite a few PayPal, Amazon, Steam gift cards. And more. Also when they release the Blockchain (explained below) you can sell your coins for $$$ or cryptocurrencies. You can also sell your coins online to other users, but I don’t recommend that because you don’t get much money from it (and it’s unsafe due to scammers).
It’s important to realize that you get 1 Sweatcoin per 1 kilometer you walk, or 1 mile you run. (You earn coins a lot faster by running.) The offers that cost 5 – 100 coins typically are discounts on products, which means you’ll still need a valid credit card to pay the remaining costs. This upsets a lot of people who don’t want to use credit cards.
You have to save up more coins to get the 100% off discounts. Sometimes you have to pay shipping & handling. To be honest, it’s really worth it. My wife got 50% off ($75 off) designer sunglasses that she was going to buy anyway, and the offer was only ~20 SWC. So I’d consider that really good free money. But if you want straight PayPal or Gift Cards you need to save up more. Don’t expect to get rich quick 😉
What kinds of free gifts can you earn?
When I first got the app, the first offer I saw was a new iPad for 500 Sweatcoins. I wanted to earn that so bad, which is what fueled my earning. Well by the time I got 500, the iPad was long gone, but there were other offers – $50 gift cards, designer sun glasses, fitness fashion apparel (mens+womens), tea subscriptions, food boxes, PayPal cards, Amazon cards, and more.
What is the app like? How do you use it?
Below are 3 screenshots from the app.
Basically every day you make sure the app is booted up and running in the background. (Sometimes it crashes and requires a restart to keep earning.) Then you go about your day. You can entirely ignore the app. However I recommend checking in once a day at least, to see if there are any new offers that interest you.
Opening up the app once per day ensures that you see new “Hot Item” offers before they sell out. Remember the iPad I mentioned above? Well it sold out within days. And there have been other offers that sell out within 1 day, or even hours. For awhile there were free PayPal cards for Sweatcoin. It was like $5 for 100 coins. Those were extremely popular and they ran out so fast.
So in summary: make sure it stays open, earn coins, check the offer marketplace often, invite your friends to the app to earn bonus coins.
What’s the “catch”? What’s in it for the app creators?
Good question! This is something you should be asking about all “Earn X online” or “Make Money Online” opportunities. For Sweatcoin, I can tell you the answer. SweatCo Inc (the app creators’ company) earns money in two primary ways. #1 – they earn money from investors who see future potential and want to get in on ground level. #2 – they earn money from offer-providers who advertise their products on the app. Sweatcoin is the ultimate form of marketing, given their 4 million+ daily/weekly active users! Therefore Sweatcoin is perhaps one of the best places for fitness/tech/sports/health companies to advertise their products. Sweatcoin also gets paid a very little through advertising – the app does NOT have advertising. You have a choice to view an add to get 1 free coin every day, and that’s it. Other than that, there are no ads that show unless you click on earning your daily coin.
What’s the Future of this app?
They have announced a Blockchain Cryptocurrency is in the works! That means you’ll one day be able to sell your coins for money/crypto. That’s why I encourage people to start saving NOW.
In my personal opinion, this “digital currency” can be the ultimate Fitness Currency. Back in 2016 I predicted that we’ll see “Sweatcoin Accepted Here” stickers on major sports and fitness retail shops, such as REI or Big 5 or Sports Mart if you know of them (they’re U.S. based). There is SO much potential for this app if the creators keep up their great work.
What is “incentivized fitness” and why is it exploding?
This app is one of the first to earn you rewards for your steps. There are a few others out there that try to do the same thing. (Including one shoddy app that is a blatant rip-off!) And that’s very good for the market. Nothing is preventing you from using Sweatcoin alongside other apps that earn you free rewards for fitness. So you can check the other apps out and have them all running in the background. (I personally have not done this yet, but I know others who do – and one guy who runs 4 at the same time!)
The future is incentivized. You gotta wonder why there are so many ‘make money’ opportunities – because the average person with a website and product can essentially be a business. Therefore, fitness apps can incentivize activity in their apps and provide a platform on which offer providers, services, and product companies market their services.
Simply put, if you get in on ground level with Sweatcoin, you’re gonna be way ahead of 99.9% of the population in how many Sweatcoin you earn.
What effort is involved to use this app?
Simply keep it on in the background. If you have a hard time with battery life, they have a battery saver mode that reduces drainage. I have a 6 year old iPhone and Sweatcoin does not tax its battery. It uses very little Data because it analyzes GPS only once every 2000 steps (and once at the very end of the day so you get rewarded for every step.
Are there any downsides to Sweatcoin?
Some people are disappointed they can’t earn fast because they don’t walk much. This app is not for couch potatoes! It’s for people who walk and run a lot.
Because the app is still pretty new (Less than 4 years old) there are still bugs they are fixing.
In the very beginning some people cheated the app. But they since fixed those and banned the cheaters. Now it’s guaranteed that all of the Sweatcoins earned are legitimate. Some people report buggy issues with the app. Again, they’re working to make it more stable across all platforms.
Another potential “Downside” is that only outdoor steps count. They’re currently working on a way to track indoor steps, such as on a treadmill.
Also you might find that some of your steps don’t count. They once advertised a 65% reward percentage on average. Now that number I believe is might higher. (For me personally I find 90% of my steps converted into Sweatcoins.).
Do they print Sweatcoins out of thin air? (Like what happens with USD?)
No. All Sweatcoins circulated in the app are from physical movement. Every single coin. The creators earned the first batch of coins which are used in the “Treasury” – the place where Sweatcoins for referring others reside. Absolutely no coins were created artificially. This is a VERY important fact to consider when you think about the app’s future – it’s impossible for them to print their own money/coins.
Can you earn more than 5 coins per day?
Yes. You must upgrade your membership tier. You start out at 5, and then you use Sweatcoins to purchase higher tiers. You can earn up to 20 coins per day, and that will be higher when they release the super top-secret “Trouble Maker” membership tier. (No information is available about that one yet.
